Located in the heart of Sri Lanka, Sojitz Kelanitissa is a diesel fired combined cycle power plant, catering nearly 10% of the power demand of the country. With a net dependable capacity of 163.15MW, SKPL consists of a 115MW GE frame 9E gas turbine and a 57MW steam turbine. SKPL was constructed as a BOI approved BOOT (Built, Own, Operate and Transfer) project in 2003 with an agreement period of 20 years.

HISTORY

In year 1996 Sri Lanka faced a severe power crisis. Government invited Independent Power Producers (IPP) to the country in 1998. It was a time period that Sri Lanka suffered with ethnic conflict so that country suffered from higher security risk.

Sojitz Kelanitissa started its constructions in Year 2000 and commenced its commercial operations on 10th of October 2003.
